Char-Broil gas makers recalled due to injury hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Char-Broil, LLC have recalled the vertical gas smokers due to hazards that are associated with machines that may cause injury.

The vertical gas smoker’s regulator does not always allow for enough gas to flow so a fire may start. The build up of smoke inside may cause the door of the smoker to blow off and cause injury.

The recall object weighs 75 pounds and has the measurement of 21.5” x 19.5” x 45.5” and was sold at Wal-mart and other retailers between March 2008 and June 2010.

Risk of collapsing causes stroller recall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has voluntarily recalled baby strollers after it was found that they pose the risk of collapsing.

Nearly 3,700 double strollers were recalled when it was found that the frame latch near the front wheels may collapse if the stroller hits an object. This would then cause the whole stroller to collapse.

There have been 185 reports of this happening and two injuries have been reported but neither of them were life threatening. The recall involves the 2007 and 2008 models of the Zooper Tango double strollers with production dates between January 2007 and  April 2008.

Nationwide recall of eggs after salmonella contamination

A nationwide recall of eggs has been announced due to salmonella contamination traced back to eggs that were distributed from Wright County Egg in Iowa.

The Center of Disease Prevention and Control said that multiple brands are involved in the recall such as Albertson’s, Ralph’s, Farm Fresh, Dutch Farms, Kemps, Lund, Mountain Dairy and more. There have been 266 illness reports in California alone.

The sell by dates on the eggs are between May 16 and August 13. The salmonella contamination was found on the shell of the egg and officials are urging consumer to not eat the raw egg. Customers are urged to discard the eggs and a full refund is available.

Kellogg may be investigated by oversight commission

At the end of June, Kellogg announced a recall of over 28 million boxes of cereal due to the fact that the company found that the liner can produce a waxy taste and smell in the cereal.

Reportedly the Kellogg company destroyed multiple boxes of defective products that showed that the taste and smell were a result of chemical 2-methylnaphthalene before announcing the recall. This chemical has be known to be associated with lung injuries in adults.

The Subcommittee of Oversight and Investigation is asking for a meeting with Kellogg to address the issue and discuss the company’s activities and how they plan to prevent chemicals from entering the cereal.The committee has asked Kellogg to have relevant information ready by August 16,2010.

Pottery Barn recalls 400 bed bunks

Pottery Barn, a division of the company Williams-Sonoma Inc. has recalled 400 children’s  bunk beds because of a possible entrapment issue that can occur if a child’s head is caught between the space on the decorative head board.

The beds were sold in store and online from July 2009 to March 2010 for $1,400. Consumers are urged to not use the bunk bed until they bring it in to the nearest Pottery Barn location so that the issue can be fixed.

USDA announced recall of 90,000 pounds of chicken nuggets

The USDA had announced the recall of almost 90,000 pounds of chicken nuggets that were sold in Wal-Mart stores. The frozen chicken nuggets were made by Perdue Farms Inc. and were sold with the “Great Value” label.

These recalled products may contain plastic products inside the chicken. Officials have said that no injuries were reported from the products but there have been complaints of consumers finding blue pieces in their nuggets.

The product code for the recalled products are the one-pound 13-ounce bag of nuggets with a “Best If Used By date of June 9, 2010.

Mini motor bikes and go-carts recalled due to fire hazard

Baja Motorsports Mini Bikes and Go-Carts and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced the voluntary recall of their mini bikes and go-carts due to a fire or burn hazard.

The fire can occur when the gas cap leaks or detaches from the fuel tank on the recalled vehicles. There is also a sudden acceleration risk because where the fuel line and cable throttle are positioned.

There have been 9 reports of the fuel cap coming off or leaking and in one case, the defect caused a serious fire that injured a child. There has been 25 reports of the throttles getting stuck and causing injury to the face and other body parts.

Bicycles recalled by bike supply company

The U.S. Consumer Product and Safety Commision and Seattle Bike Supply have issued a voluntary recall of 2010 Redline Conquest Cyclocross Bicycles and Framesets because the forks on the bike could come lose, causing the driver to lose control of the bicycle and possibly fall and become injured.

Nearly 330 units have been recalled and includes the framesets and bicycles that are yellow and black. These bicycles are sold nationwide between July 2009 and May 2010. People are urged to stop using the products and to return it to the store for a fork replacement.

Two different pet foods recalled due to salmonella

Merrick Pet Care has recalled 86 cases of Beef Filet Squares for dogs due to a possible salmonella contamination.

Products that are involved in the recall have a sticker on the bottom of the bag with the Best By date of March 24, 2012. The company has not received reports of illness from the product but the Federal Drug Administration tested a sample and found that it was contaminated with salmonella.

The salmonella can not only make the pets sick but also the owners if they touch the salmonella. Consumers are urged to not open the container and to bring it back the retailer it was purchased at.

Two ground beef recalls occur in California and New York

Two separate ground beef recalls occurred in California and New York. According to reports, the ground beef may been contaminated with E. coli.

The recalls were announced by the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. E. coli bacteria can cause kidney failures, dehydration, and diarrhea.
