Amby Baby USA of Minneapolis and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have announced a recall for 24,000 of the company’s Amby Baby Motion Beds following the deaths of two infants due to the product. The beds are swinging and hammock-like, and are marketed as helping babies with colic and reflux. If your child has been injured or worse by a product, the New Jersey product liability attorneys of Levinson Axelrod may be able to help you fight for the compensation you deserve for your tragedy.
The beds are meant to gently swing finicky or sick to sleep. However, safety advocates say that babies are safest in a crib with a hard bottom. There is a risk that the swinging motion of the Amby Baby Motion Bed can roll the infant over, trapping him or her against the fabric, presenting a serious suffocation risk. A 4-month-old in Georgia and a 5-month-old in Oregon have died this way.
