Whirlpool Corp. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have voluntarily recalled 1.7 million dishwashers due to fire hazard.
The recall comes after 12 reports of fires happening after heating elements in the dishwasher fail after having an electrical issue. The fires have caused severe damage to the dishwasher and in one case, severe damage to the entire kitchen. Models affected in the recall include Maytag, Crosley, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Magic Chef.
A source from Business Week said that a person that has the recalled dishwasher can either choose to have someone come out and fix the dishwasher or have up to $250 for a new dishwasher.
